Here a scammer takes over the Victim's WhatsApp, pretends to be the Victim, and reaches out to the Victim's friends and family, urgently asking for money. Unaware that it’s a scam, they willingly send money to the scammer’s provided UPI ID or payment links, thinking they are helping you in a time of need. The consequences? Financial losses for them, and emotional distress for you, as your identity becomes a tool for the scam.
So let us see the overview for a better understanding of the proper process of this scam.

Imagine a victim receiving a missed call that leads to a cascade of events, eventually endangers the victim's WhatsApp account, and potentially causes financial harm. This scam hijacks victims WhatsApp, pretends to be a victim, and asks your friends and family for money. Unaware it’s a scam, they send money, thinking they’re helping. Through this article, I tried to highlight the need for increased awareness and caution.
How It Works:
The scam begins with a seemingly innocent call claiming network issues. 📲 The caller, often posing as a network technical error, persuades the victim to give a missed call to a specific number like *4100* to resolve the supposed issue. It is required for the victim to know that this call sets off a chain reaction that risks your WhatsApp and personal information.
The Devious Process which scammer performers:-
- The missed call triggers a fake notification, and after that, it claims that the victim's WhatsApp is connected to a new device.
- Simultaneously, call forwarding is initiated without your knowledge, directing all calls to the scammer.
- With access to your WhatsApp, the scammer infiltrates your contacts, posing as you and soliciting small amounts of money through convincing messages from the victim's WhatsApp account.
- The scammer targets your friends and family by exploiting group information, making it a highly personalized and dangerous scheme.
Preventive Measures:
- 🤔 Always verify the authenticity of unexpected calls or messages, especially those requesting a missed call.
- 🌐 Regularly check your call forwarding settings with your carrier to ensure no unauthorized changes have been made.
- 🔍 Google your phone number to identify any potential exposure in recent data breaches.
